I remember something from decades ago, pre-Trump, when I generally voted for Republican candidates: I received an asinine letter and request for donations, with a petition for me to sign, demanding that Dan Rather be fired for being insufficiently deferential to (I think) George Herbert Walker Bush. I didn’t sign or donate. It is understandable that even a relatively decent political party needs to appeal to yahoos and the ignorant, as well as thoughtful citizens, but now the yahoos and their flatterers are in charge.
