I drove home yesterday, arrived about 2am. Had a great dinner at El Charro's in Tucson, always a good thing. Best thing was stopping at Bookman's on Ina where I found a copy of Risk: Star Wars, Attack of the Clones and a book that I was looking for but didn't know the name, it was Lionel Fenn's third Diego book. I'll be writing considerably more on this series in a week or so.
So I got a great meal while reading a great book! And it was the first time in my last two or three visits that I didn't have a wait to get in! So double bonus.
Hit the road again after sunset, stopped at a rest area for a little half hour nap, got home. Russet was doing a full night at the observatory and had taken Celeste with her, it's warmed up and the overnight lows are like low 50's or so, so it wasn't too cold for the poodle. She got home and we opened prezzies!
I gave Russ a new sweater, a copy of the wide-screen edition of Serenity (she didn't know it was due out, and when I left last week I told her she could not buy any new release movies until after I returned). I also bought the final seasons to Buffy & Angel for the both of us, that completes our series for those two. And I have one additional present that I should have brought to the observatory tonight, she'll get that in the AM. She gave me a wonderful pair of denim pants from Land's End that are lined/insulated. Very comfy! She'd given me some electric socks along with some microwavable foot warmer thingies but gave them to me for my birthday on the 16th in sympathy.
In other gift-giving news, I gave my dad two goodies for his birthday (the 25th, we'd agreed not to exchange xmas presents for economic/idea reasons, but these are birthday presents, and that's different): a copy of the desktop trebuchet plans mentioned here a few weeks ago, and a December 1933 copy of National Geographic, the month and year of his birth. Unfortunately he's been a bit under the weather.
I gave my nieces three cool things: a copy of the latest Princess Bride DVD, an original 1973 first print edition of the Goldman book, and a copy of the game Amazing Labrynth. When Russ and I were passing through Tucson for Thanksgiving, we'd stopped at Bookman's and they had a German edition of this game for $9. Once you know the game, you really don't need the rules as all the tiles have no printing on them, so my nieces got my edition with the English rules.
Michelle got a hand-made purple dragon that we picked up at the Las Cruces Crafts/Renaissance Faire that she absolutely loves, and I gave Audrey two books: pressed fairies and Bradford Marsalis' ABZ Jazz, a book of poems written about jazz greats and written in their style of playing.
For meself, I shouldn't have bought anything as I got myself a wonderful pair of fur-lined boots last week to the tune of $150, but I screwed up my packing and needed some add'l shirts in town, so I picked up two shirts from Bookman's along with two used DVDs: Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou and Supersize Me. But my big breakdown was buying a copy of City of Villains, I started installing it this evening before coming to the observatory, hopefully it might be done updating when I get back home later. Used books from Bookmans don't count as I read them all while I was in Phx.
Apologies for typing errors, I'm doing this on a Mac and not only is the keyboard a bit weird, I'm also not used to the cursor movement keys.
