We had a big storm system move into the area. Thursday I drove down to Las Cruces and did a little shopping, bought four books and some goodies for the poodle, then spent the night at my aunt's. The storm hit 'Cruces and we got a goodly amount of rain there last night, lots of cool fog this AM and I got some (hopefully) cool pictures as I was driving back to Cloudcroft this morning.
I also got to drive my Matrix in damp dirt whilst chasing photos and the all-wheel drive did a great job.
But when I got home, it obviously either didn't rain or didn't rain enough for it to be significant.
So this afternoon I go to work at 3pm, it starts raining about 5:00, and we get hail at 6! And my boss has a 2006 BMW 330i that's five weeks old! Fortunately the hail was less than a quarter inch and I doubt he suffered for it.
When I left the school at 8pm, it was raining pretty heavily. I went out to dinner, did some shopping, and the rain stopped by the time I started heading up the mountain. Uneventful drive until I get about six miles from home some rain started. Not to heavy. Sounded like some hail, but more like like older hail that was bouncing up and hitting the underside of the car. I couldn't see anything hitting the windshield or hood, then it started snowing. The further up I got, it was obvious that the storm had lingered higher up in the mountains and that it had been snowing for a while. And eventually it starts looking like winter!
There's probably three inches of snow on the road and two inches on the dirt roads going up to our house. And I'm VERY glad to say that my new car did a great job in what snow there was! I had no problems in water in Alamogordo, and as long as I was cautious it did great in virgin snow.
My former Rodeo in these conditions? Forget it.
I've been kind of frustrated that we bought the Matrix in November and haven't had any snow since then, tonight made it all better.
