LOTS to post, it'll dribble out over the next week or so.

We didn't quite make 5,000 miles, I think the final was just under 4,700. Beautiful drive, particularly heading east (at least once you get across Oklahoma). No car problems, no accidents, no tickets, no exceptional poodle problems (except she stepped on my sun glasses in Virginia and then rolled over on my daily glasses in Colorado, fortunately both were fixable).

The one disappointing thing was that we didn't do any used bookstore crawls, and both Omaha and Virginia have some great ones to crawl through. That probably isn't a terrible thing as space was kinda limited. Next year's BlingFest has smaller costume requirements (renaissance festival garb takes up a lot of space!), so we can probably pack smaller, which will then have give us more room for books.

We got in this morning around 1am. When we crossed over from Colorado to New Mexico, there was a great big sign that said "Extreme Fire Danger" followed by "Everywhere". No lie.

Well, there's nothing for breakfast in the house, so I need to get moving and go to work so I can get some food into me!

New York Times started talking about this Sunday, interviewing one of DC's editors about the upcoming new DC lineup.

"...Kathy Kane, who, according to the article: “…is a wealthy (socialite), buxom lipstick lesbian..."

There's a reason why I stopped reading Marvel and DC comics many MANY years ago. I have no problem with Batgirl being gay. I just have serious doubts that they'll carry it off well. Will they show her going on dates with women? Will she have a girlfriend to come home to at night? Will it be just so much fluff: "Look at me, I'm gay! I like women, I don't date men!"

There have been bisexual characters in main-stream comics before, it wouldn't surprise me if there have been gay characters in them before. There's no doubt that they've been in alternative/independent comics for a long time. I just doubt that DC will carry it off well. Now, if they had a gay female writer on the script, I would consider buying it. But I don't think that's the case.

And don't get me started on the breast size of most female comic characters! Geez.

This is from BlingFest, that's me after not trimming my beard for over two months. Give me a leather vest and a Harley shirt and I'll fit right in as a biker.

I'm the one on the right.

I can live with this! (though I'd definitely prefer the Michael York version)

You scored as D'Artagnan. You are D'Artagnan, the brash Gascon who embodies the high ideals of the Musketeer. You are sometime your own worst enemy, but your motives are pure and your character is unimpeachable. You are destined for great things and passionate (though often ill-fated) love.
