Seems to me that there is a dissonance going on: the owners/mgmt think 'we're in an expensive area and can charge a fortune', and 'we're exclusive and can do what we damn well please and it won't bite us.' Now it's biting them. Today there's 20something reviews, and the most recent ones state 'I have the receipt to prove we were there' or 'I live in the area' and are negative. I think they were running it on self-viewed snob appeal without considering possible blow-back.
As far as knowing who was or was not in a wedding party, when an individual makes a reservation for an event, the event has a block of room held. The mgmt is probably trying to tie reviewer names to reservations, with no guarantee of accuracy. My Yelp reviews list Wayne W. of Cloudcroft, so it wouldn't be difficult to tie me to a reservation since they'd have my name and address.
