Well, today Google said that they are formally NOT going to follow through on their promise to block third-party cookies in their browser.

Date: 2024-07-26 06:25 pm (UTC)I tried the Chrome Browser once upon a time, but when I found out it updated itself silently without my knowledge and that I couldn't change that behavior, at least at that time, I yanked it. I try to maintain as much control over updates as I possibly can, even if it's just knowing what programs are updating. I remember once Zuckerberg went to Bill Gates and asked him what he did when customers came to him and complained about all the private information that he collected about them for marketing, and Gates gave him a stunned stare and said "We don't!"

Date: 2024-07-26 07:31 pm (UTC)Yeah, it's hard to say how much and what data they were collecting. We know Google and Facebook sucks up as much as they can lay their hands on, and Apple is pretty resistant to collecting user data, everyone else is pretty much a mystery.
