Summer is here or soon arriving, so I pick up some ankle socks. It gets warm in Alamogordo in the summer, daytime highs will frequently be over 100f, but an hour after sundown it'll drop down to mid 70s and Cloudcroft will be mid 50s.

Here's the thing. The bag that the ankle socks came in? It's a resealable, ziploc-style bag.

To the best of my knowledge, socks don't go bad as long as they're occasionally washed. I've never seen any care instructions on clothing that recommended socks be stored in an air-proof container.

Apparently socks get returned to the store all the time or the package gets opened at the store to see what size they are, ruining their resale value. It's just easier to have them in a ziplock container so that the consumer can see the actual product without having to resort to vandalism! And why do I know this? You try guessing if a kid who wears size 12 girls shoes will fit into size 2 socks. The sizing is all screwy. Same goes for kids underwear. I imagine Hanes just switched over all the packages to avoid the Walmart Destroyed Packaging phenomenon.
